African Art

Traditional African art is profoundly influenced by magic and religion.
It is rooted in ancestral worship, sacrifices, funeral rites, initiation
ceremonies, spiritual dances, shamanistic traditions, and the sacred
rituals of secret societies. Diverse artistic styles of the African
continent share fundamental expressionistic and aesthetic powers.
These qualities have inspired many leading 20th century European artists.
