DISPLAY (BACKBOARD)

Each student will construct a display. This display will be set up at the fair along with the Science Fair Notebook and any equipment the student may wish to display. The display briefly summarizes the problem, hypothesis, procedures, results, and conclusions. The display can be pegboard, or foam core board (obtained at Art Stores). This is preferred by the Science Fair committee. You may purchase a simple display board at Michael's or at Staples for under $6.00.
The display is 3 sectioned and self standing. Construction or contact paper, cloth, or paint may be applied over the 3 sections. Professional or computerized lettering should be large and attractive; correct spelling is a NECESSITY! The 3 sectioned display should be no wider than 4 feet when opened and self- standing. Height should not exceed 4 feet but be at least 2 feet tall. When opened, the display should not have a depth (from front edge to back middle section) over 18 inches. The final Science Project Notebook is attached by at least 2 feet of small link chain, or rope to the lower left portion of the MIDDLE DISPLAY section.

Your name, class schedule, and science teacher's name should be clearly written on a 3x5 card and adhered to back, left section, near the top . Do not put your name anywhere else on this board.

The Procedures, Results/ Conclusions on board are shortened summaries; judges can read the notebook for details. Computerized graphs and laser printed lettering is desired. Use school computers if a computer is not available at home. Photos of you doing your experimentation are a terrific eye catcher! Frame the board by placing a taped border around outer edges or some other artistically creative idea. Use attractive colors, large print and high contrast. This is the big pictorial advertisement of your project. Judges should look at your board and want to see more! That’s when they’ll look at great depth at your science fair notebook. The Backboard should close in on itself, in a flat position.
